Konkoma features two of the pioneers of Ghanaian music and long term musical collaborators of Nii via Osibisa, Emmanuel Rentzos on keyboard and vocals, and Alfred “Kari” Bannerman on guitar and vocals.
Add into the mix Nii, child prodigy drummer Jose Joyette (Michael Jackson/George Harrison/Amy Winehouse), Jamiroquai bass player Derrick McIntyre and Reginald “JoJo” Yates on vocals, mbira and sepriwa.
The brass section was made up of Ben Hadwen, Scott Baylis and Max Grunhard, who went on to form Ibibio Sound Machine.
Their self titled debut album was released in 2012 and was a live studio recording, mixed by Mike Pelanconi (aka Prince Fatty) at his Brighton studio, and released on the Soundway record label (available in the Nii Tagoe website shop). Three of the tracks which Nii contributed to the album, ‘Kpanlogo’, ‘Sibashaya Woza’ and ‘Niebakwa’ form part of his new band’s repertoire.
