Nii Tagoe has drumming, dancing and rhythm in his blood and in his soul. When he’s performing it’s plain to see that he drums, dances, sings and plays with his body, mind and spirit.
Combine his cultural heritage, his time in Adzido and Frititi, a black belt in Praying Mantis Kung Fu, his shining personality and positive energy – you have a African dance/drumming teacher second to none. If you want to learn genuine dances from across Africa, Nii is the teacher for you.
The dances are broken down into simple parts and gradually increased in complexity so participants can grow gradually and confidently into the dance.
Nii travels internationally playing and teaching and, as with all the best artists, continues to learn himself as he travels.
His regular class is at Brixton Recreation Centre South London 8 to 10pm most Tuesdays (check Frititi Pan-African on Facebook). He also holds learning days, courses and residencies from time to time – watch this space.
Among many others, he was one of the original teachers at ‘Tribe of Doris’ and ‘ACE’ Pembrokeshire’s Afro Celtic festival. He continues to run dance/drumming weekends and a regular drumming group in Pembrokeshire, as well as teaching days in other towns and cities.
